The year of 2012 has witnessed the most dramatic changes in China's surrounding environment. Going by the principled position of "setting aside disputes， and pursuing joint development" ， China has persevered in struggles that are forceful. reasonable and restrained. It has properly handled various emergencies and appropriately dealt with thomy issues， and has effectively upheld national sea rights and territorial sovereignty， while averting various risks of head-on confrontation. In face of Japan's moves time and again on the issue of Diaoyu Islands， such as the Japanese Government "purchased" and "nationalized" the islands， China exposed to the international community Japan's lack of profound introspection in its militarist history， its premeditated challenges to the post-war arrangements for Japan and the order of the Asian-Pacific region as defined by the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation， and its aiming at negating the results of the World Anti-Fascist War. Meanwhile ， China has released standard names of the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands， declared the baseline for the territorial waters of the Diaoyu Islands， and issued White Paper on Diaoyu Island， an inherent territory of China. At the same time， China has started regular patrol and law enforcement activities around the Diaoyu Islands， in order to exercise administration over the Diaoyu Islands and its affiliated waters.
With the above series of important measures ， a mighty blow has been dealt to the attempts of Japan and some other countries relying on outside forces to encroach upon China's territories and territorial waters. At the same time， freedom of navigation in the South China Sea， which attracts international attention， has been guaranteed according to principles of international laws. All this has gained international acclamations.

于洪君， born in January 1954， native of Nong'an， Jilin Province， Doctor of Law， PhD supervisor.Member of the Communist Party of China since December 1984.
Yu Hongjun started to work in 1972 and studied at the Northeast Normal University from October 1978 to July 1985. After working as a faculty member of the Party School of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee from July 1985 to October 1986， he went on further education at Renmin University in October 1986. He joined the International Department of the CPC Central Committee in July 1989 and has successively served as Deputy Division Director， Division Director， Deputy Director-General and then Director- General of the Research Office. He served as First Secretary in the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Kazakhstan from March 1996 to September 1998 and was then seconded to the Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee from October 1998 to February 2000. He served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Uzbekistan from September 2005 to December 2010. He assumed the office of Vice-Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee in December 2010. And he has been concurrently holding the post of the President of China Center for Contemporary World Studies （CCCWS） and Chairman of the CCCWS Council since January 2011.
Yu Hongjun is a member of the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference since 2013.

China Center for Contemporary World Studies （CCCWS） was founded in 2010. Its main fields of research include international situation， political party politics， political system in foreign countries， China's foreign strategies， socialist theories， social and political trends of thoughts and comparative studies in development modes. It actively conducts exchanges and academic discussions with foreign political party think tanks and research institutes.
The Center has established close ties with domestic political party think tanks， government deparlments， universities and colleges as well as research institutes. It has also established diversified academic exchanges and cooperation with foreign research institutes from US， UK， Germany， Russia， Japan， Poland， Romania， Hungary， Bulgaria， DPRK， Brazil， India， South Africa， Israel， etc.
The Council of the Center has engaged a number of influential political figures as well as many experts and scholars from domestic and foreign academic institutes， universities and colleges in relevant fields， who act as special council members or special research fellows. Wang Jiarui， Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China （IDCPC）， is Honorary Chairman of the Council concurrently. Yu Hongjun， Vice-Minister of the IDCPC， is President of CCCWS and Chairman of its Council concurrently. CCCWS publishes a Yearbook of CCCWS every year and produces a monthly journal in Chinese titled The Contemporary World.
